Adventures with seals
What a wonderful weekend! Our fantastic skipper Mike from Porthkerris divers braved the strong east winds on the Lizard, to bring the boat around to collect a keen group of 12 free divers, from Porthleven. We set out from the shelter of the harbour, along the beautiful Cornish coast to see what we could see. The journey is just magnificent, passing the spectacular Minack theatre, Porthcurno beach with its white sands and the historic St Michaels mount.
We tucked away from the wind into the sheltered area of Lands end and went for a dive on the magnificent site of Longships light house. There are a number of grey seals here, but it is very important not to disturb this magnificent creature. We stay well back and after an hour or so in the water, moving very gently so as not to disturb them, a few of the more curious ones come to say hello. Daan has taken some wonderful pictures of them, one of which you can see here. He waits patiently on the sea floor holding his breath and slowly they will come close enough for him to capture them on camera.
Due to the autumn storms from 2017 there seem far fewer on this site in comparison to last year. We had some amazing interactions and our free divers, who have travelled from all over the UK got to see these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat. Many thanks for such a wonderful trip!
